{Quake,Green_tribunal,Collision,Iran&Meteorite}

Dear all,
Welcome.

Earthquake tremor: Tremors were felt at Jaipur, Tonk, Kota & adjoining cities at 6:27 am for about five seconds. The earthquake measured 4.1 on richter scale. No loss of property is reported thereafter. It's epicentre was at Tonk, 357 kms away from Delhi.

NGT/NIC: The National Green Tribunal has asked for making Qatar Shipping co. as defendant in oil spill case at Mumbai Coast. It is to note that Oil spillage happened in Arabian sea at 20 nautical miles off the Mumbai coast.
The Tribunal had found that the ship belonged to Delta Navigation Co. whose original name is Delta Group International whereas Delta Shipping Marine services had insured it. The NGT Chairman had ordered it upon petition of Environmentalist S.Mehta. He had demanded compensation for damage caused to aquatic environment. As per the Bench, some documents led to believe that Delta Navigation is the actual owner.
The vessel MV Rack was filled with 60,000 metric tonnes of coal & was shipping it for Gujarat's Adani Thermal power plant. Along with it was 290 tonnes of fuel oil & 50 tonnes of diesel too.
The Bench had also asked MoEF for non-updation of it's website & providing wrong information at National Informatics Centre.

Collision: In the near future, it could be the paint that might be used for averting collision of heavenly bodies to save the Planet Earth. The Texas based A&M University's physicist stated that Triboaching powder dispensing technique might be able to change the direction of such bodies viz. comets, meteorites, etc. Under the said technique, paint would be applied so as to cover the body, which would reduce the amount of energy reflected. This may sound ridiculous but could work.
Water or oil emulsion may not work in space but it could be possible in powder form. NASA is studying on the subject. It is also to note that Apophys, a tiny planet, would be nearing earth on April 13, 2029.
Already, Russian foreign minister had told to develop such techniques like missile protection system to be used for protection from such bodies.

Original_app_mssg(1) Iran & P5 talks
AEOI of Iran had declared to have found new Uranium mines in Northern & Southern coastal areas, which are three times as were estimated. Prior to talks with IAEA, it had notified 16 Atomic Energy Centres too. This could be a cause of concern for Western Countries.
The talks along with six countries[P5+1] at Kazhakasthan would start from Tuesday. These include US, Russia, Britain, France & Germany.  The present estimates of Iran would increase to 4400 tonnes. However, if Iran agrees to stop enrichment, the restrictions might be relaxed.

Original_app_mssg(2) Meteorite
A meteor streaked across the sky and exploded over Russia's Ural Mountains with the power of an atomic bomb Friday, its sonic blasts shattering countless windows and injuring about 1,100 people.

The spectacle deeply frightened many Russians, with some elderly women declaring that the world was coming to an end. Many of the injured were cut by flying glass as they flocked to windows, curious about what had produced such a blinding flash of light.

The meteor -- estimated to be about 10 tons and 49 feet wide -- entered the Earth's atmosphere at a hypersonic speed of at least 33,000 mph and shattered into pieces about 18-32 miles above the ground, the Russian Academy of Sciences said in a statement. But even small asteroids pack a tremendous punch, explained Andrew Cheng of the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory.

"It doesn’t take a very large object. A 10-meter size object already packs the same energy as a nuclear bomb," Cheng, who led a 2000-2001 mission for NASA to orbit and land on an asteroid, told FoxNews.com.

'It doesn’t take a very large object. A 10-meter size object already packs the same energy as a nuclear bomb.'

"There was panic. People had no idea what was happening," said Sergey Hametov, a resident of Chelyabinsk, a city of 1 million about 930 miles east of Moscow.

"We saw a big burst of light, then went outside to see what it was and we heard a really loud, thundering sound," he told The Associated Press by telephone.

The meteor hit less than a day before Asteroid 2012 DA14 is to make the closest recorded pass of an asteroid to the Earth for a rock of its size -- about 17,150 miles. But the European Space Agency said its experts had determined there was no connection -- just cosmic coincidence.

He stated that around 10,000 students are studying in India with around six thousand in South Indian States. Iran had relaxed norms for Indian tourists, businessmen & pilgrims. Visa on Arrival facility is available for them. India should also grant the same. If it relaxes such Visa norms, the number of students opting for studying may increase.

POSCO: Social activist, Swami Agnivesh, who had been an aide of Anna Hazare, had criticized Police force use for land acquisition for POSCO. He had termed it as criminal act. CPI had also condemned the Police act in Odisha. As per him, it is not the right of the govt. to use Police force on peaceful protesters. At JagatSinghpur, Police had denied his claim of Police using force for acquiring land. After the money being paid to the land user, the land is acquired & with Police protection for land owner. It is to note that Vedanta Inc. was ordered by the Supreme Court to follow regulations in regard to mining activities, which was also hailed by Rahul Gandhi as victory of tribals.

Babri masjid/National crime: The Supreme Court had reprimanded CBI for delay in challenging Allahabad's High Court decision for rejection of charges against 19 accused for demolition of Babri Masjid at Ayodhya. The Court had rejected CBI's request for granting additional time for filing affidavity stating that it would continue it's hearing based upon the records of Special Court & High Court.
It is to note that CBI had asked Supreme Court to run trial against 19 accused for demolition of Babri Masjid. It includes BJP leaders like L.K.Advani, & M.M.Joshi etc. Earlier, High Court had rejected charges of conspiracy by the accused & hailed the Lower Court's decision. CBI had challenged it before the Supreme Court, whose next hearing is scheduled on February 19. Original_app_mssg(1) Modi Brand
JD(U) President & NDA Co-ordinator had stated that some corporate houses are raising the name of PM's candidate & warned them. He advised them that they should not play with the fire and run the businesses. Their(political) work should be left to them. He told that PM is being searched like atomic bomb research. It should be stopped. NDA had not asked anything upon it. It would be declared by their party at the right time.
It is to note that during EU meeting on past January 7, apart from Gujarat riots, country's politics & communal factor were also discussed along with Modi so that EU shouldnot have to change it's stance after his coming into National Politics. EU had, thus, kept open doors for talks with him. Earlier, the ruling Congress Party had suggested that foreign countries should not stand on India's internal political issues.
Original_app_mssg(2) Constitutional Bodies[CAG]
The Comptroller & Auditor General had, in a lecture at Harvard Kennedy School, stated that it cannot limit itself to presenting audit report. It had found it's own route that it is responsible for the public. It has the right to know about public awareness especially primary education, drinking water, rural health, pollution & environment etc like social issues.
The govt. had told CAG to remain in it's limits & Congress has highlighted it's political aspirations. BJP & other opposition parties claimed that since CAG is not functioning as per the govt.,he is being targetted.
The I & B minister told that rather than justifying his data about 2G claims, he had accepted outside forum. Congress secretary had asked whether they wish to be PM? They could fight election but presently he should be within limits. BJP spokesman told that it is history of Congress to make use of such constitutional bodies. It had forced such bodies to work in their favour. It had not left CVC, CBI & CAG.
CPI(M) told that it is unfortunate & indicates decline in political behaviour. CPI told that it is a practice of Congress to target such bodies.
Original_app_mssg(3) Debate on death Penalties
After Afzal guru's execution, debate had started at many levels as to why he was kept alive for so many years. However, sources claim that it is a legal process under which President takes a decision. The mercy petition time frame is not certain & many culprits take advantage of it. As per present law, GoM is also involved for giving suggestion. But Article 17 needs to be amended under which the decision is taken. Earlier, Kasab was also kept live for many days.
Presently, there are five prisons for execution viz. Ludhiana, Nagpur, Pune, Delhi etc. with more than 100 acquitted for death penalty.
Earlier, while executing death sentence of Kasab, Pakistani national, Indian Home Secretary had sent a letter to foreign secretary on November 14, 2002, which was as follows:
I wish to inform you that Ajmal Kasab's mercy petition sent to the President is rejected. As per Maharashtra State's Prison code, the said prisoner is to be executed on November 21 at Yerwada jail, Pune. In this regard,a formal letter by Mumbai Central jail with no. MCP/SRJR/PRI/Kasab/Visit/156 dated November 12, 2012 is for relatives of Prisoner no. C/7096, which is attached. It is requested to provide information to his relatives.
Original_app_mssg(4) Tsunami
A powerful earthquake off the Solomon Islands generated a tsunami of up to 1.5 meters (about 5 feet) that damaged dozens of homes in the South Pacific island chain Wednesday, but authorities canceled warnings for tsunamis on more distant coasts.
Solomons officials reported two 1.5-meter (4 foot, 11-inch) waves hit the western side of Santa Cruz Island, damaging around 50 homes and properties, said George Herming, a spokesman for the prime minister. There were no reports of injuries or deaths. Villagers were heading for higher ground as a precaution, Herming said.
The tsunami formed after an 8.0-magnitude earthquake near Lata on Santa Cruz in Temotu province, the easternmost province of the Solomons, about a 3-hour flight from the capital, Honiara. The region has a population of around 30,000 people.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said a tsunami of about a meter (3 feet) was measured in Lata wharf, in the Solomon Islands. The center said an 11-centimeter (4.3-inch) wave was observed in neighboring Vanuatu.
The center cancelled earlier warnings for tsunami waves further away.
In Honiara, the warnings had prompted residents to flee for higher ground.
"People are still standing on the hills outside of Honiara just looking out over the water, trying to observe if there is a wave coming in," said Herming. So far, he had received no reports that a wave had been spotted in Honiara.
Atenia Tahu, who works for the Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corp. in Honiara, said most people were remaining calm.
"People around the coast and in the capital are ringing in and trying to get information from us and the National Disaster Office and are slowly moving up to higher ground," Tahu said. "But panic? No, no, no, people are not panicking."
An official at the disaster management office in Vanuatu said there were no reports of damage or injuries there.
More than 50 people were killed and thousands lost their homes in April 2007 when a magnitude 8.1 quake hit the western Solomon Islands, sending waves crashing into coastal villages.
The Solomons comprise more than 200 islands with a population of about 552,000 people. They lie on the "Ring of Fire" — an arc of earthquake and volcanic zones that stretches around the Pacific Rim and where about 90 percent of the world's quakes occur.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake struck 81 kilometers (50 miles) west of Lata, at a depth of 5.8 kilometers (3.6 miles). The warning area does not include Hawaii and North and South America.
