Welcome.
April 5 is Indian Navy day. Indian Coastal line is around 7500 kms. Besides, 97% of our trade is done through sea route only. Recently, Brahmos missile was test fired from a Pantoon located at Bay of Bengal. Earlier, it had been tested through INS Virat. A plethora of warships had been made in collaboration with Russia along with aircraft carrier too.
After Mumbai attacks, it was alerted that terrorist could enter India via sea route.
Vedanta Inc. The TamilNadu PCB had ordered closure of it's Copper smelting plant at Tuticorin. It had also cut off it's electricity supply. The plant also produces Sulphuric acid, phosphoric acid, gypsum, & Anode slime.
After leakage of harmful gas, it had ordered closure on March 23. Earlier, Madras High Court had ordered it's closure upon violation of PCB rules. Now, it had filed petition before Supreme Court.

Water_day&Earth_Hour

Today is World Water day. We all understand that despite our Earth being surrounded with 71% of water, fresh water resources are limited. Modern techniques like Rain water harvesting etc. are used in built-up areas for accumulation of water. Even veteran social activist, Anna Hazare, had been involved in some such projects in MP.
Secondly, water leakages from tap or flushing water could be prevented or limited usage could help in saving water. Nowdays, Water treatment plants are used for chlorination etc. before water being supplied.
Thirdly, water could be recycled if it could be used for horticultural purpose after due treatment.

Also tomorrow, "Earth hour" is being celebrated all round the world in the wake of Climate Change happening across the world. On Saturday, all the electrical appliances would be shut off for one hour duration between 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm. During Earth hour, non-important lights & appliances would be switched off. Also, during this hour, White House, Opera House, etc. are switched off. The Partner State during this time for Earth Hour is Delhi State.
It is to note that Earth Hour is a programme of WWAF (World Wide fund for Nature). Delhi had been declared as champion city during past year wherein it had saved 295 MW of Electricity.

IPCC&Gas_Pipelines

IPCC: The Earth's temperature is rising. It's rate is highest during the past 11,000 years. The data collected from 73 different areas by Scientist indicate start of Ice age again.
As per the data, Earth is comparatively 70-80% warmer than what it was prior to 11,300 years. The research is published in Journal Science. The IPCC had evaluated the climate model & predicted world's temperature by the year 2100. The Ocean & Atmosphere Science's researcher stated that the data indicates earth to be significantly warmer. Around 5,000 years back, the temperature got reduced by 0-17 deg but during past 100 years, it had become warmer again. The change is apparent in Northern hemisphere, where most of the world population inhabits. The model predicts that the earth's temperature may again, by the end of this century, become 0-17 deg.

 

Iran-Pak gas pipeline: US had requested Islamabad to not move ahead on Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline as it is not reliable partner. It would also be a violation of ISA act. It is to note that despite US warning of restrictions, Iran had started its 750 crore dollars gas-pipeline project from March 11 onwards.
The US foreign ministry stated that they would like to make it clear to Pakistani counterpart that if the said gas pipeline project is finalized, ISA would be questionable. Pakistan needs energy & US is already considering various alternatives including Tazhakistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project.
